To me, a handy feature in Mac OS X was the system wide color inspector- I could just drop colors into that and they’d be available throughout most applications. Thanks to Eckard and his post on sharing color palettes, and of course the work of separate open source software teams who all chose to use a common palette format, you can approximate that common palette. Eckard has the instructions in his blog post and I made a script to do it for you below.

Please back up your palettes before you run it. It worked on mine, but your mileage may vary.
