Just watched a video about the UI redesign in MS Office. Although I don’t use Office and haven’t for years, I thought some of their ideas were interesting, regardless of how well they pull them off.

  • The underlying idea is that the user understands what the program can help them with, at any given time. Wouldn’t it be great if just being on a web page, you would know how it could help you and what it could do (and how to do it)?
  • There was a very specific tidbit about horizontal menus. She said that user feedback actually indicated that users look first in the middle, drift to the right and then back to the left extreme.
