Reunion is the best family history software for Mac OS X. It is polished and well thought out. It has everything, and more, that I have needed in my genealogy research.

Gramps
Family history software has the benefit of there being a standard interchange format- the GEDCOM standard. I have only seen a handful of so-called genealogy software packages that do not have an Import/Export Gedcom feature- and if you do, steer clear of them.
Gramps is an extremely nice family history package- I really enjoy using it.
