You may prefer super-simple media players. Unfortunately I’ve never found one that just worked… like I wanted it to. So I knew I’d need one with superb organizational powers. And I found it in Media Monkey 4. Polished looking and fulfilling the dreams of over-organizers, Media Monkey always kept up. And because of it’s great support for embedded metadata, the data I wrote to the files is still there to be used by other smart media apps.
If anything it proved to be so solid that I wish I could take it along.

Amarok
There are ton of media players available for Linux. But in the Gnome world, you'll probably trip on some bizarre community infighting about the media player people should use. Just use Amarok.
